The uncertainty that COVID-19 brought is still here and going strong. Promises of a vaccine are taking longer than initially thought. Businesses that shut down are slowly starting to reopen, and many states have more cases now than before.
With so much happening, it might be hard to keep up with all the rules. Many employers are working hard right now to help their employees. People at high-risk are being allowed to work from home at their jobs. Everyone is taking the necessary precautions while at work to protect themselves and customers.
Remote Working
For those who have autoimmune issues and are otherwise at high risk of contracting COVID, teleworking is a reasonable accommodation under the ADA. If this information wasn’t provided to the employer, you might need to prove your condition and provide medical documentation.
If you feel that you’re unfairly treated (other people can work from home, or you have a doctor’s note requesting that you do), it’s possible to file a complaint. However, this could be a lengthy process, and you may still be without a job or any income.
Don’t Risk Your Health
Generally, customer service jobs are the easiest to switch to working from home. You’ve probably got everything required to do this already (internet connection, computer/laptop, and telephone).
When an employer doesn’t allow you to work from home, you may ask to be on leave for a while until COVID goes away or a vaccination is available. During this time, consider other at-home jobs to do in the meantime to make money online.
Consider doing paid surveys to pass the time. It’s a great way to kill a few hours and earn some money. Product reviewer jobs are also popping up everywhere. Companies pay you to test their product and leave honest feedback. Be diligent in your efforts to work at home and keep yourself and your family safe.
