What 5 Habits Can Help You Survive Working at Home During a Pandemic

Though you don’t have to drive to the office, you should still make your lunch and put it in the refrigerator.

COVID-19 has changed everything. More than ever, people are working from home. There are countless ways to do this, such as through customer service jobs or doing your current work but at home.

Of course, this is an exciting and unprecedented time, but it can also cause many issues. Those who aren’t used to working at home may find it hard to concentrate and stay productive.

Don’t Neglect Social Skills

What most people miss about working from home is the social aspect. They could see other people throughout the day and chit-chat on their break. Now, though, you’re stuck at home and may not have anyone to talk to. There may be days when you have meetings or may ask questions through Skype, but you’re ultimately on your own.

To pass the time, you may consider ways to make money online, such as paid surveys or product reviewer jobs. However, you still have to be social.

Ask your employer to set up a communication system where people can go ‘on a break’ and talk about daily life like they did before COVID. This enables you to stay in touch with your coworkers and feel like you’re there at work, which might also help with productivity issues. Alternatively, consider calling a friend/family member on your break to get adequate social interaction.

Plan Your Day (Schedule)

It’s important to keep a schedule, even if your employer lets you work later or at different hours. Make sure that you set your alarm, shower, and get dressed. This helps you feel like you’re going to work. Though you don’t have to drive to the office, you should still make your lunch and put it in the refrigerator. If you often go out to lunch, consider doing this as long as you’ve got the funds. Consider scheduling meals for whatever time you get at work (half an hour or an hour). That way, things seem more normal.

Exercise

Throughout the day, it’s essential to move around and get plenty of exercise. Consider going on a walk during your break since you no longer have to get up to talk to a coworker. Schedule restroom breaks and stand while working, if possible. A great way to do this is to use a standing desk.

Eat Well

It’s easy to grab some junk food or forget to eat while you’re at home. However, make sure you’re still eating healthy and as you do at the office. In fact, you might take this time to cook nutritious meals on your breaks since have extra time. If that’s not possible, make things the night before.

Keep Calm (Relax)

It can feel different when you work from home. Customer service jobs are always stressful, but there are ways to reduce your stress. Consider meditating on your breaks, get plenty of sleep, and take a bath or hot shower at the end of a long workday at home. Nothing else has to change; you’re still working, but you don’t have to leave the house to do it.
